On 15th August, Gama Aviation was proud to host its Apprentice Cohort Day at our Bournemouth facility – an event designed to introduce the next generation of engineers, and their families, to life within our MRO division.
This year, four apprentices will be joining our business as they begin their five-year journey in aviation engineering: Cameron Howard, Callum Mannell, Saleem Umar and Will Barnish. Three of the apprentices will be based at Bournemouth, while one will join our team in Staverton.

Introducing the pathway

The day provided apprentices and their families with an in-depth overview of the structured training programme, which blends classroom-based technical learning with on-the-job experience. Over the course of the apprenticeship, the cohort will work alongside experienced Licensed Engineers and Team Leaders, gaining the practical skills, knowledge and discipline required to succeed in this highly technical profession.
The session was led by Simon Heap, MRO Training Instructor, with support from Joanne Guy, Training Coordinator, and Ian Caffull, Licensed Engineer and Shift Leader from Staverton. Together, they guided families through the expectations of the programme and answered questions about the pathway.

A closer look at Gama Aviation

Following the induction, apprentices and their families toured our Bournemouth facilities – including the hangars – where they were able to see an aircraft undergoing maintenance up close. This provided valuable context for the type of environment and projects the apprentices will be part of in the years ahead.
The day also gave them the chance to meet Licensed Engineers, Team Leaders, and our current first- and second-year apprentices, offering an honest insight into life as an apprentice at Gama Aviation.

Looking to the future

The event was very well received, with apprentices and their families appreciating the opportunity to ask questions, explore the working environment, and gain clarity on the support they will receive along the way.
We now look forward to officially welcoming Cameron, Callum, Saleem and Will on 1st September as they embark on their careers in aviation engineering.

At Gama Aviation, we are committed to investing in the next generation of engineers, providing the training, resources and mentoring needed to help them succeed – and to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the aircraft entrusted to our care.
