Military Mission Solutions

Many of our clients (with the noticeable exception of the Royal Air Force) are not interested in aviation per se, instead they require aviation to deliver a mission effect. This is where our military mission solution capability comes to the fore.
Put simply the team has been created to deliver an effect using cost effective, civilian fixed wing, helicopter or unmanned aviation platforms in non-warfighting domains. To achieve this our mission solutions programmes are based on a detailed understanding of the concept of operations (CONOPS), from which we will build a solution in the following way:

  • Review the current civil platforms that are capable of delivering the mission
  • Identify those that provide the best balance between operational cost and availability
  • Determine the mission systems architecture (i.e. sensor package, rear operators)
  • Determine the defensive aid suite required (i.e. DIRCM / IRCM)
  • Purchase the platform on behalf of the Authority
  • Design, install, flight test and deliver the platform(s) into service
  • Recruit / train civil, reservists or military personnel for flight operations
  • Recruit / train civil, reservists or military personnel for maintenance support
  • Manage the through life airworthiness condition of the aircraft on the civilian and military register
  • Support the platform according to its theatre of deployment and MOB, BOB or FOB
  • Modify the militarised platform back to civilian use
  • Dispose of the platform at the end of its life

Expertise in using civilian types for military operations

We have substantial expertise (39 years) in the delivery of aviation platforms to fulfil missions around the globe in a civil or military context. One of the primary reasons we are chosen by our clients is our ability to remove the complexity from the deployment of civil aviation platforms for military purposes.
These non-war fighting assets are most commonly deployed in roles associated with:

  • Head of state transportation
  • Border patrol and national security ISR tasks
  • Stand-off ISR / ISTAR
  • COMINT and ELINT
  • Initial training
  • Advanced training
  • Red team / quick reaction force (QRF) exercises
  • Equipment testing, test flying and research

A focus on availability

For our clients in this domain, mission availability is the foremost key performance indicator. To this end we are proud to deliver mission availability rates that are between 98 -100% across a fleet of assets. To achieve this the mission solution team focus on:

  • Rapid deployment of security vetted support engineers
  • A spares pool to smooth out supply chain issues
  • Base liaison to allow the free flow of goods in, and out
  • Identification of fast track logistics channels (this is not always within the Service)
  • Strong relationships with airframe, engine and mission equipment suppliers
