Recognising Women in Aviation Week and International Women’s Day at Gama Aviation
Each year in early March, the aviation industry marks Women in Aviation Worldwide Week alongside International Women’s Day — two important moments that recognise the achievements of women and encourage greater representation across aviation careers.
Women in Aviation Worldwide Week is held during the week of 8 March to commemorate the anniversary of the first female pilot licence awarded to Raymonde de Laroche in 1910. Today, the week serves as a global initiative designed to inspire women and girls to explore careers across the aerospace industry and to address the sector’s long-standing gender imbalance.
Across Gama Aviation, women are playing an increasingly important role in the organisation’s global operations. Today, 22% of Gama Aviation’s workforce are women, with a clear ambition to increase this to 30% by 2030.
While the aviation industry continues to evolve, women remain underrepresented in many technical and operational roles. Initiatives such as Women in Aviation Worldwide Week highlight opportunities across aviation and encourage the next generation to consider careers in the industry.
To mark both Women of Aviation Week and International Women’s Day, Gama Aviation will share a series of spotlight interviews on our LinkedIn page highlighting the experiences and perspectives of women working for Gama Aviation.
As part of the campaign, Evie Freeman, Group Director of Client Experience, has recorded a short message reflecting on the importance of visibility and representation for women across the aviation sector.
Evie notes that while progress has been made across the industry, continued focus on representation and opportunity remains important to ensure aviation attracts the broadest possible talent.
Through her work leading the Red Thread Academy, Gama Aviation’s client experience training programme, Evie continues to champion a culture where people, professionalism and service excellence sit at the centre of aviation operations.
Over the coming days, Gama Aviation will be sharing the stories of six women working for Gama Aviation, whose careers represent the diversity of roles within the aviation industry:
Lisa Humpries – Business Development Director
Nikki Clark – Finance Director, Special Missions, Corporate & C&A
Amelia Lowry – Mechanical Design Engineer
Elizabeth Mehmood – Head of FBO Aviation Security
Hannah Lunn – Senior Medical Services Coordinator
Emma Crewdson – First Officer, Special Mission
Together, their experiences highlight not only the many career paths available within aviation but also the importance of encouraging future generations of women to consider careers in the industry.
